In response to: Remove dead Citrix Servers from the farm

1. First you may try to run "dscheck /full servers /clean" on one of the Citrix servers. This may give you a cleaner view.

2. I found that Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 Console and Citrix Access Management Console 4.5 are not able to remove 4.0 non-existent servers. You may first try to install Citrix Presentation Server Console 4.0 on one Citrix server and remove these servers from that console.

3. If that is not working, check what IP addresses these servers have been, and change IP address of one machine, either desktop or server to thoese IP one by one, and remove servers from 4.0 Presentation Server console. 4.0 only need to ping the server before removing it.

4. If this is still not working. Make one server with same name, install Citrix on it, join the farm, and then remove Citrix right away. Repeat this for all non-existent servers. You should be able to remove all.

After doing this, remember to dscheck clean again.

In response to: Remove dead Citrix Servers from the farm

I have started a new position and would like to do some spring cleanup. There are multiple servers that are old and nonexistent at this point. They cannot be brought back. Within the CMC, they are listed at PS 4.0, however the farm is now 4.5
I have tried to right click and remove from farm to no avail. I did this on the DC, and then ran DSMAINT RECREATELHC...again, nothing happens.
Are there any other methods for removing these servers. I have about 10 in total, and they will not able to come back online.

In response to: Splunk - filter all that IT Data

I have played with Splunk. On Windows servers it works like a MOM agent. I am not sure the CPU and Memory cost of the agent. It is very cool for me to monitor the AGEE (Citrix Access Gateway Enterprise Edition) with its searching functions.

In response to: Citrix XTE ServerTroubleshooting

All very good you need 443 for SSL on a website aka https://www.bla.com
If you change it to 444 you must type:
https://www.blah.com:444 which is just no good for customers.
There must be a way to change citrix to use 444 so we dont have to sacrafice the website?
In response to: Fix EdgeSight Report Server Problem after SQL Server Upgrade

Hey Paul,
seems we both be doing a little work on Edgesight. Here is my migration steps.

Check out the last NOTE** Regarding reporting services

1.On the EdgeSight Web server system, perform the following steps to shut down critical EdgeSight processes:

a.In the Control Panel's Services interface, locate and stop the Reporting Services.
b.Using the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager tool, stop the EdgeSight Web site.

2.On the SQL Server system, detach the EdgeSight database from the current SQL Server. This can be done using the SQL Enterprise Manager (SQL Server 2000) or the SQL Server Management Studio (SQL Server 2005).

3.Locate and copy the underlying EdgeSight database files (.mdf and .ldf files) to the new SQL Server system.

4.Attach the actual EdgeSight database mdf file on the new SQL Server system using the same tools described in Step 2 above.

5.Create the SpectUser SQL logon account within the new SQL Server system. Again, the tools mentioned in Step 2 can be used to accomplish this. This account should be given full dbo rights to EdgeSight database.

6.On the Reporting Services machine, open the Report Manager web console (http://myserver/reports) and configure the edgesight datasource properties by updating the connection string.

a.Change data source to the name of the new server.
b.Change initial catalog to the new database name.
c.Change password to the new password for the SpectUser.

7.On the existing EdgeSight Web Server machine, use the esconfig.exe utility to view or modify the connection string (ZTECH_CONNECTION) in \Program Files\Citrix\System Monitoring\Server\EdgeSight 4.0\EdgeSight.cfg configuration file. The connection string contained in configuration file is encrypted. The default location for the utility is \Program Files\Common Files\Citrix\System Monitoring\Server\Components.

a.Execute "esconfig.exe /csserver:[ServerName]" to set the name of the new SQL Server system the database is now residing on.
b.Execute "esconfig.exe /csdb:[DatabaseName]" to set the name of the new database.
c.Execute "esconfig.exe /cspass:[Password]" to set the SpectUser password to match the one that was created on the new SQL Server system.

8.Restart the EdgeSight Web server system.

Note the following conditions:

*The new SQL Server system should be running the same version of SQL Server as the old SQL Server system. The versions of SQL Server should match exactly on both machines.

*This process only describes how to move the EdgeSight database. It does NOT describe how to move the Microsoft SQL Reporting Services databases (ReportServer, ReportServerTempDB). You are not required to move these. However, if you want to move them, Citrix recommends completely uninstalling/reinstalling Reporting Services.
